I have had some time to think this morning while milking, and I was struck at how much my legacy could or should mean. Someday we will all die and as I get closer to that day I find myself wondering what will my legacy be. I won’t be a rich man for people to come and pay homage to. Nor will I be an especially wise man as I am not overly learned. I will not be a great religious man to be prayed to or a great politician to be idolized. What I will be is a common man, one Johnny Cash could have been proud of, I hope. I will have a few good friends and several acquaintance’s and a great family that has always supported me no matter how crazy I was. I will leave this farm and all of my favorite animals to my family as a legacy of sorts and hope they love them as much as I have.

To some that doesn’t sound like much, but it is a heritage that I have learned to love. There won’t be any statues or tributes to me, I am sure, but what I will leave is a legacy of decency and compassion for my fellow man and love for all those that I could love. That seems to me to be a fairly good legacy. I hope that this blog in someway reaches you and touches you as that will be one more way for me to touch the world.

So, in closing I urge you to plan your legacy. Plan to love your fellow man, plan to show compassion, plan to treat the world as an adventure and your life like it’s the only one you have. Plan to leave behind some goodness in the world. Do this and your legacy will be huge whether you are a common man or uncommon. Strive to show love where there is none and your legacy will outlive even your family and friends. And it is never to late to change your legacy if you may have squandered it a little there is still time to change. And be known as a Good man or woman one that people can look up to, and strive to be like. A wiser man than I once told me “live your life as you want to be remembered”. Good advice for us all. Good luck building your legacy may it be the adventure of your life.
